Most Important SEO Updates in 2020 Part 1

Video Transcript

Welcome back to another Wednesday Workshop from DealerOn. We hope this video finds you well.

As search engines continue to refine exactly what they look for, SEO is an ever-changing landscape. Today, in part one of this series, we’re going to talk about four of biggest changes to SEO in 2020. Next week, we’ll be back with part 2, where we discuss 4 more.

1. Webpages with a featured snippet will only appear once on the first page of search results.

Formerly, a page with a featured snippet could appear twice on the first page of search results, once for the snippet and once for the results. As of this year, Google is eliminating the possibility of appearing twice. While this might hurt, the goal is to improve Google’s overall user experience.

2. You can have multiple Google My Business listings, but you don’t want them.

You can now have one GMB listing for each brand you carry. While this can seem like a good idea, especially for FCA and GM dealers, it’s not something we recommend. More than one GMB listing can easily harm your overall SEO. Concentrate on a single GMB listing and make it as good as you can. Check out our blog and some other Wednesday Workshops for tips on how.

3. As of March, GMB will be including a health and safety section for customers.

This change was put into place because of the ongoing pandemic and might end up going away afterwards. For the time being, whatever precautions you’re taking for your customers’ health will be mentioned up front in your GMB listing. Presumably you’re taking all the recommended steps, and so this is good news for your customers and your business.

4. GMB now allows businesses to add secondary hours.

If your dealership has special hours for seniors, or if your service department is open when the showroom isn’t, you can list each set of hours separately on your GMB profile. Your customers can tailor their visits to their precise needs.

That’s all the time we have for today’s workshop. Next week, we’ll be back with part 2 of this series where we talk about four more big changes to SEO. As always, if you have any questions or comments, leave them below and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. Thanks for watching. We’ll see you next week for another Wednesday Workshop from DealerOn.
