Introducing Ian Zang – Senior Training Specialist by day, board game creator by night. Read more about Ian in this week’s Who We Are.
What team are you on and what is your role/job title?
I’m on the Training Team, and I am a Senior Training Specialist
How does your team/role contribute to the success of DealerOn?
Our team supports the rest of DealerOn by providing lessons, guides, and updates that inform our employees about how our company works!
What do you think makes DealerOn different OR what sets DealerOn apart from other players in the space?
We have a team that is incredibly dedicated to our customers. The speed at which problems are solved is frankly incredible; at this point, I’m convinced the design and development teams are just full of technowizards.
What do you like most about working at DealerOn?
The work-life balance is second-to-none. The perks of the job are great, but the fact that my team works together to ensure that each of us has good mental and physical health is indispensable.
What is a fun fact about you that people don’t know?
I design, develop, and publish my own board games under the label Gravitation Games! I’ve been working in the tabletop gaming industry for near on a decade now. It’s been a ton of fun bringing ideas to life.
Who/What motivates you?
I love working through problems with other people. Being an extreme extrovert, I get motivation from interaction with others.
What are you passionate about?
I’m driven to ensure that people are having a good time. If you’re not having fun, you’re not learning, and I try to bring that to everything I do.
Who inspires you? (present day)
My wife, Shelby. She’s dealt with so many challenges, but managed to overcome them and be successful in her field.
If you could meet anyone from history, who would it be and why?
My inner nerd is coming through, but I’d love to hang out with Sid Sackson, who pioneered some absolutely fantastic tabletop games that still hold up today. To be able to spend some time with him would be absolutely incredible.
Do you have any serious hobbies or interests outside of work? What do you like to do in your free time?
I mean, I made making board games into a secondary career, so I’d say that counts. With over 400 board games in my house, there’s never a dull moment!
Do you have any unusual phobias?
It’s not unusual, but flying stinging insects (bees/wasps) just should not exist in a 10 foot bubble around me. Thank you very much.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Instant teleportation. Being able to be anywhere in an instant would be excellent. I understand that the journey should be just as important as the destination, but I could do with skipping airports and driving.
