Do you have hidden content on your home page?

Does your website’s home page have content that’s hidden behind a “read more” link? That’s actually really bad… Watch this week’s video to learn why – and get your site updated as soon as possible!

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Welcome back to another Wednesday Workshop from DealerOn. This week’s video is all about an incredibly important tip, one that will drastically change your dealership’s online presence. In fact, it’s so important that if you don’t hear it, you might even end up having to shut the doors of your dealership.

To find out what the tip is, you’ll have to click here to watch more…

Ok, we’d never really do that, cause it’s silly, right? So how come so many of you do that on your home page?

Seriously, we see this all the time! While it tends to happen mostly on a certain provider who will not be named, we see it on other platforms too. It’s a REALLY bad idea, people – you’ve got to stop it immediately!

Yep. Google has publicly stated on several occasions that if text isn’t visible to human users when the page loads, it doesn’t “count” for SEO. It’s easy to prove that too – just copy one of the sentences that shows up after you click “read more” and search for it on Google inside of double quotes – assuming it’s unique text, Google will show you that there are no sites with that text on it!

Besides – you SHOULD be putting the text on your home page because it’s useful and helpful for the human users who are landing on the page… So why would you make them click to read it all? That’s not a good user experience.

Also – make sure that all the text that’s on your home page on the desktop version is also there on the mobile version. We see a lot of dealers removing all the text on the mobile sites because they think it looks prettier… But Google is going to release its mobile-first index at some point this year – and when that happens, if you don’t have the text on your mobile site, you’re not going to show up in searches… even if the searches are done on a desktop computer!

The moral of today’s video is that your text is there for a reason, so you shouldn’t hide it! Not only will your site have better visibility in searches, you’ll convert at a higher percentage too!

That’s it for this week’s video. As always, if you’ve got any questions, leave them down below and we’ll get back to you shortly. Thanks for watching, and don’t forget to come back next week for another Wednesday Workshop from DealerOn.
