You’ve Got To Create A Content Calendar

This week’s video is a day late, cause honestly… We didn’t plan very well. BUT – that leads right in to this week’s tip: You have to establish a content calendar. If you plan ahead, it’s much easier to create great content on a regular basis. Watch the video for all the details…

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Welcome back to another Wednesday Workshop from DealerOn… OK, OK, so it’s a day late… but we can’t really call it a Thursday Thurkshop, can we?

The Hair and I were speaking at the Internet Battle Plan conference in Atlanta this week – and we meant to shoot something there on site for this week’s video. Unfortunately, we were too busy talking to dealers to get anything shot!

Quick side note – Thanks again to Pat Preston for the most epic dinner I’ve ever had with a dealer…

BUT – being late on today’s video leads perfectly into this week’s tip – You have to establish a content calendar and stick to it!

Every dealership out there needs a content calendar. You’ve all got social media accounts, you all SHOULD have a blog, a lot of you shoot videos, and there are a few forward thinkers who’re doing podcasts…

Regardless of the medium, you’re all sharing content. While a few of you might have an SEO or social media provider helping with some of the burden, most of you do it all yourselves. You all know how it goes – you start with the noblest of intentions and share great content… but then there’s a time when you’re busy, and you skip a few… and before long, you haven’t posted anything in months.

You’ve got to create a content calendar. Know what’s being published, so you can plan ahead and have everything ready to go. You can write/record/shoot your content way ahead of time and even schedule your posts/updates/releases.

Did you catch the last 4 or 5 videos of the year last month? You might have noticed that Shaun and I were making little jokes about how we were always wearing the same shirts – that’s because we typically shoot 6 to 8 videos all at once. It’s a lot easier to plan out our schedule, then take a few hours one morning to shoot the videos.

It’s WAY too difficult to try to plan time every week to coordinate our busy schedules and a) meet to figure out what we’re going to talk about, b) write the script, c) shoot the video, and d) edit the video.

You need to release your content on a regular basis, so set up a content calendar. Due dates are clear, and there’s much more accountability if everyone knows the schedule. You’ll find that it’s exponentially easier to create great content on a regular basis if you plan ahead.

That’s it for this week’s video! As always, if you’ve got questions or comments, leave ‘em down below, and we’ll get back to you shortly. Don’t forget to stop by our booth in a few weeks in New Orleans to say hi, and let me know if you want to be in one of our fun videos! See y’all next week for another Wednesday Workshop from DealerOn.
