Most Important SEO Updates in 2020 Part 2

Video Transcript

Welcome back to another Wednesday Workshop from DealerOn. We hope this video finds you well.

Last week, in part 1 of this series, we talked about four of the biggest changes to SEO in 2020. Today we’re going to discuss 4 more. If you haven’t watched last week’s video, you might want to check it out now. Don’t worry, we’ll still be here when you get back. Otherwise, let’s get started.

1. Google has added local listings to its autocomplete.

Now customers will be able to find you with fewer clicks, as autocomplete means that the search engine will be actively attempting to help your customers find you. This new feature will be especially helpful for dealerships with multiple locations.

2. Google is testing ads in organic spaces such as autocomplete and maps results

Placing ads in these organic spaces means that your customers will see them as a result of normal use. The ads will be less intrusive, and, because they are obtained through a paid vetting service, Google guarantees your business to users. It’s too early in the game to know what the effect is, but we’re optimistic.

3. Of the seven ranking factors in SEO, Google My Business and Google reviews have gained the most ground in 2020.

This trend has been ongoing for several years, so its continuation shouldn’t offer much of a surprise. If you have a GMB listing, concentrate on developing it. If you don’t, start building one immediately!

4. Google is shifting over entirely to mobile-first indexing.

Google has been promising to shift over to mobile indexing for some time, and although the pandemic has delayed it, the time has come. If your site isn’t mobile-friendly, it will no longer be indexed. Check out our blog or other Wednesday Workshops where we discuss the advantages of responsive web design, which is the best and most elegant solution to this problem.

That’s all the time we have for today’s workshop. As always, if you have any questions or comments, leave them below and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. Thanks for watching. We’ll see you next week for another Wednesday Workshop from DealerOn.
