An important note about moving locations

In this week’s video, we talk about the importance of updating all of your online listings to reflect your new address whenever your dealership moves to a new location. It’s important for SEO, but it’s important for customer service too. Watch the video to learn why…

Welcome back to another Wednesday Workshop from DealerOn. This week’s gonna be super short, cause we’re moving our SEO office this Friday, so we’re busy packing up and getting ready for the move.

And actually, moving locations is what we’re gonna talk about today. Lots of dealerships move – you may outgrow your old location and need a bigger lot, or a bigger building. You might want to upgrade to a shiny new showroom. You might get a sweetheart deal on a dealership that shut down… there are tons of reasons.

The problem is, whenever dealers switch locations, they never go in and update all of their citations and directory listings. Not only is it incredibly important to Google that your location information is consistent, it’s just good customer service. If you forget to update your listings, and someone finds you on one of those other sites, they might end up going to the old location… at best, they’ll call you and still find you, just arriving a little disgruntled. At worst, you’ll lose that customer.

And on the SEO side, if you suddenly introduce a new set of citations into the ecosystem that don’t match your old address but have the same business name and maybe even the same phone number, that’s going to cause visibility problems. It’ll be even worse if you set up another Google My Business listing.

So if you’re going to move locations, make sure you’ve got someone who knows SEO in your corner. It’s incredibly important that you get all of your location info in every listing online updated to the new address information as quickly as possible. You’ll need to monitor all the sites for a few months as well, to make sure they don’t revert.

That’s all the time we’ve got for this week! As always, if you’ve got questions or comments, leave ‘em down below and we’ll get back to you shortly. Thanks for watching, and we’ll see you again next week – from our brand new video studio in the new office – with another Wednesday Workshop from DealerOn.
